The town of Denton is located in Davidson County, North Carolina, approximately forty miles west of Greensboro and twenty miles west of the city of Asheboro. Settled as early as 1882 and incorporated on March 11, 1907, the town that was previously known by the names of Finch Roads, Finch's Crossroads, and Sycamore credits much of its early growth and prosperity to citizens J. M. Daniel and B. I. Harrison. Today, the town of Denton is home to a population of approximately 1,450 residents who enjoy the friendly, small town atmosphere, convenient proximity to the larger cities of Greensboro and Asheboro, and pleasant seasonal weather afforded by the humid continental climate zone that brings hot, humid summers, moderately cold winters, and wonderfully mild weather during the springtime and fall seasons.
Denton is an outdoor sports and nature lovers’ paradise! The town and surrounding area offers unparalleled fishing and hunting opportunities, as well as boating, swimming, and skiing on High Rock Lake that features 350 miles of shoreline dotted with weekend cottages, boat rentals, and more.
For family fun and adventure, the Denton Farm Park is a 140-acre, family-owned historical park that features over five hundred campsites and fifteen restored buildings that include a general store, gristmill, log cabin, church, blacksmith shop, post office, and radio museum. The park is host to several major festivals and events each year, including the Farm Park Bluegrass Festival, the Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver Bluegrass Festival, and the Southeast Old Threshers Reunion, which is billed as the largest steam, gas engine, and antique farm show in the Southeastern United States.
Events hosted annually by the city of Denton include the Harrison Park 5K Run, held each March in Harrison Memorial Park, and the Denton Street Festival, held each September that features food, music, arts and crafts, and more.
