Geothermal Systems

Efficient, advanced heat pump technology using ground-source energy. Innovative Carrier geothermal heat pumps tap into the earth's surface, using the energy and relatively consistent heat found in the earth, a pond, or well water instead of using outside air like traditional heat pumps. Geothermal heat pumps provide both cooling and heating to your home and are able to maintain the highest efficiency on even the coldest winter nights or the hottest summer days.

What Is Geothermal?

Geothermal units are similar to heat pumps, but use the solar energy stored in the ground to provide heating, air conditioning and hot water.

The earth acts as a giant solar panel, absorbing roughly half of the sun's heat energy. A series of pipes called a "loop" is buried just below the frost line to tap into that stored energy.

In the winter, heat is brought in through the loop, concentrated, and delivered throughout your home. During the summer, the excess heat in your home is removed and delivered back to the earth, completing the cycle. Because geothermal units use the earth's natural heat, they are among the most efficient and comfortable heating and cooling technologies currently available.

Geothermal Loop Types

Vertical Loop

Used when space is limited.

Horizontal Loop

Used when adequate land is available.

Pond Loop

Needs adequately sized body of water close to home.

Open Loop

Needs abundant supply of quality well water.
